Here’s my latest song, ‘dare’, which I wrote as a tribute to Aylan Kurdi, the little three-year old boy whose body was found washed ashore a few weeks ago in Turkey. The images of his little corpse have been haunting me since I saw them, and the first few days I could barely think straight. The lyrics came to me very quickly and as if on their own volition, and likewise the music.
It took a few weeks to tweak and finalize the track though; so much so that public opinion in e.g., Germany, which had been very strongly influenced by the very same images to provide more support to refugees, has begun to shift again. We should never forget that these are people in need coming to us, and if we were in their stead and had the means, we’d do exactly the same.
